Remembering Angela Bofill

I first met Angie when I was working at WBLS in the late 70’s. She was local out of the Boogie Down Bronx and Fort Apache just miles away from our studios. Angel of the Night was the first single making noise. We still had an album presence playing hourly LP cuts. I put on I Try and the request lines lit up. I had the pleasure of interviewing her several times and her answers to my questions were authentic and unfiltered. The great ones are story tellers and her heart and soul came through in every song. I want to thank her for her contributions and success I had at KBLX. Under the Moon and Over the Sky was a song I built a Quiet Storm around. It was timeless and an anthem in San Francisco. Her team also did an amazing job of choosing great cover songs too. Stop Look Listen to Your Heart was just one. Her catalog was a main stay and focal point for early Urban Adult Contemporary music. She was one of the bestselling LP artists of her time. Her talent lives on and her spirt survives through dedicated fans. It was heartbreaking as she fought her health battles, but she never gave up the dream of singing again. May she rest in peace.
